DURBAN BEACH REPLENISHMENT – ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY
In the second quarter of 2018, the eThekwini Municipality undertook a large-scale beach replenishment initiative to restore and maintain Durban’s coastline. Katlantic Marine Construction & Diving was entrusted with the land-side management of this critical project, ensuring precision, coordination, and safety throughout operations.
SCOPE OF WORK INCLUDED:
Dive investigations to assess and map damage
Anchor management and stability control
Plant and equipment management
Levelling and controlled distribution of material
Public safety and access management during works
Katlantic played a vital role in ensuring the successful distribution of nearly 500,000 m³ of dredged sand across four of Durban’s most popular beaches. Despite the project’s complexity and multiple operational interfaces, the works were completed with professionalism, discipline, and strong stakeholder coordination.
This project not only improved coastal resilience but also restored beach usability and safety for the public — reinforcing Katlantic’s reputation as a trusted partner in marine and coastal infrastructure projects.
