EMERGENCY REPAIRS – ISLAND VIEW BERTH 3 PIPE RACKS

Katlantic was urgently called in to carry out emergency stabilisation works on the collapsing pipe racks at Island View Berth 3. Initial investigations by Transnet revealed that surging currents had caused severe erosion around the pipe rack bases – leading to compromised structural integrity and the collapse of surrounding revetment infrastructure.

Working under extremely confined and challenging conditions, the Katlantic team executed a multi-step recovery operation to restore safety and stability.

SCOPE OF WORK INCLUDED:

Demolition and removal of all compromised concrete

Excavation of embankments

Removal of derelict piping

Diver-assisted installation of underwater geotextiles

Import and placement of rock using a specialist rock barge

Reconstruction of rock revetment structures

Underpinning of leaning pipe rack bases

Backfilling and final reinstatement of the affected area

We we’re able to handle this high-risk emergency response because of our ability to manage marine infrastructure failures with urgency, accuracy, and discipline.
