TUG JETTY EXTENSION – PORT OF DURBAN
Katlantic was subcontracted to support the extension of the Tug Jetty at the Port of Durban. The works required large-scale dredging, scour protection, and precision surveying to ensure the safe completion and long-term stability of the structure.
SCOPE OF WORK INCLUDED:
Management and mobilisation of dredging and scour placement equipment
Dredging of 36,896 m³ of material from the Tug Jetty basin to seabed tolerance
Disposal of dredged material in designated basin areas requiring fill
Establishment of bathymetric survey equipment and execution of multibeam echo sounder surveys (progress and final out-survey)
Placement of geotextile lining on dredged slopes adjacent to the existing sheet pile quay wall
Supply, loading, shipping, and placement of 800mm thick rock scour protection at the sheet pile quay wall
Levelling of rock for final acceptance
All dredging, scour placement, and survey operations were executed to specification, successfully passing final multibeam survey requirements. Katlantic’s integrated marine expertise, fleet mobilisation, and precision surveying ensured the safe delivery of this critical port infrastructure project — completed to the satisfaction of both contractor and employer.
