Our Work

Katlantic is always undertaking a project at a harbour or dam in and around South Africa. On our own or in partnership with other entities in the marine construction and engineering space. Here you can see images of the work projects we undertake and complete successfully.

Structural underwater repairs to Bulk Connections Coal Terminal Berth 3

In the aftermath of the 2017 storm Katlantic through WBHO was contracted to repair collision damages to the berth 3 quay wall. The repairs consisted of:

  • Dive investigations
  • Anomaly removal off the sea floor using Barge with Long Reach Excavator
  • Demolition of damaged sections of quay wall
  • Underwater cutting and drilling of anchors
  • Installation and repositioning of shuttering formwork
  • Installation of underwater tremie concrete
  • All dive support for topside works
  • Dredging of sea bed

Emergency repairs to Island View Berth 3

Katlantic was called to carry out emergency repairs to the collapsing island view berth 3 pipe racks. The initial investigations by Transnet exposed erosion to the pipe rack bases from the surging currents which started undermining the pipe rack bases and collapsing all the revetment infrastructure. Katlantic, under very confined space working conditions, executed the following:

  • Demolish all compromised concrete
  • Excavate embankments
  • Remove derelict pipes
  • Diver installation of geotextiles
  • Import rock into the berth using a rock barge
  • Rebuilding rock revetment
  • Underpinning of leaning pipe rack bases
  • Backfill and make good.
